Food storage container organization is always a hard one to tackle. I think that is because over time lids disappear, containers disappear, you buy mismatching sets, someone sends food over and you end up with their food storage container, etc. There are so many reasons that your food storage container cabinet is disorganized and messy, but today we are going to fix that!
When we first purchased our home and I had my own kitchen, I decided from the very beginning to only ever buy one type of food storage containers, EVER! We use the Rubbermaid Easy Find Lids Food Storage Containers. I love them! The container and lid is sturdy, they don’t leak, and they are so easy to store! The lids snap together, making it easy to keep them organized, and the containers stack. When you have food in the containers, the bottom of the container will also snap into the lid of another container. There are so many good things I could say about these containers!
The reason I will only ever buy one type of storage container is to keep my food storage containers organized! When you have multiple types of food storage containers, it makes it a lot harder to properly store them. Multiple types of containers don’t always fit well together, they are hard to stack, and the lids may not all line up together. That is why I only recommend having one type of container!
To keep our food storage containers organized, I keep the containers and lids separate. We store the lids in a Large Rubbermaid Food Storage Container on the top shelf of the cabinet. The on the bottom shelf, we store the containers. The food storage containers are organized by size and then stacked. The large containers are stacked together, and then the short containers are stacked together. We also keep the tiny food storage containers in the very back because we rarely use them.
I use a food storage container almost every single day and I must say that it doesn’t always look this organized and put together (mostly because of little boys that like to play with them.) But for the most part, the containers do stay stacked and organized well!
Steps For You To Take to Organize Food Storage Containers
Okay, it’s your turn! Now it’s your turn to declutter, clean, and organize your food storage containers. Follow the following steps:
Declutter
- Pull out all of your food storage containers.
- Decide if each one is worth keeping. Are some containers cracked, are they missing a lid, do you even use them?
- Analyze each container and decide which ones you want to keep and which ones you want to purge.
Clean
- Once your cabinet or drawer is empty, clean it out with all purpose cleaner or warm soapy water.
- Wipe it dry with a cleaning cloth
Organize
- Stack your containers together that are the same type
- If they are all the same brand, group them by shape and size.
- Then, place them back in the cabinet or drawer. Put the ones you use least in the back and the ones you use most in the front.
That’s it! Today is such a simple day and will hopefully only take you 20 minutes or so to declutter, clean, and organize your food storage containers!
Continue to day 4!
