Cleaning the bathroom has always been one of my least favorite things to do. Not because it can be a dirty chore, but because of the chemicals and smells from store bought bathroom cleaners. It is no secret that store bought cleaners can have harmful chemicals in them, so I thought it was time to try a natural cleaner and test the results. I have seen rave reviews about this Homemade Shower cleaner, so I figured it was time to try it out!
I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by the results! The Homemade Shower cleaner worked better than any store bought cleaner I had ever purchased and required literally no deep scrubbing! After using this just once, my shower sparkled like it was brand new and all the soap scum was GONE!
You must try this yourself! You will be amazed by the results!
Here is exactly how you create a Homemade Shower Cleaner!
Homemade Shower Cleaner
What you will need:
- Glass Spray Bottle – You can use plastic but I recommend glass
- 1 Part White Vinegar
- 1 Part Dish Soap – Preferably Blue Dawn Dish Soap
- Sponge or Scrub Brush
- Funnel – optional
How To Make The Homemade Shower Cleaner:
Start by taking a glass spray bottle and filling it halfway full with vinegar. I recommend using a funnel to avoid any spills!
Heat the vinegar in the microwave until it is hot (1 – 2 minutes.)
Once the vinegar is heated, remove it from the microwave and then fill the glass bottle the rest of the way up with Dawn Dish Soap.
Replace the nozzle on the bottle and shake it! You may want to wear oven mitts when shaking the bottle. The glass will be hot!
How To Use The Homemade Shower Cleaner
While your shower cleaner is still hot, spray your whole entire shower with the mixture. Then let the mixture sit on the shower for 1 hour. (I forgot about it and left it there for like 3 hours whoops, but 1 hour is sufficient!)
After the time has elapsed, spray your shower walls and floor with hot water and wipe away the homemade shower cleaner with a sponge. If there are places with a lot of built up like in the corners of your tub, use a scrub brush to remove it and then wash it away with hot water.
Your shower should be left sparkling clean and free of dirt and soap scum!
This homemade shower cleaner works amazingly! And the best part is you can make it for a fraction of the cost of store bought cleaners and you don’t have to worry about the chemicals hurting your family!
Bonus tip!
Want to increase the time between deep cleaning your shower? Fill a dish wand with half dawn dish soap and have vinegar. Hang it in your shower and do a quick scrub on your shower walls and floor every time you take a shower!

You say to use this while it is still not. Is it less effective if you keep the unused amount and use it again next time? Or should we only make what we will use in one go?
Lindsay Lawless says
Hey Erin. It works better when it’s hot because it essentially melts the soap scum away. But I have used it when its not hot and it works just as well! You may just have to scrub a little bit more!
Dorene says
Does this also work well on shower doors too? How about with a squeegee?
Lindsay Lawless says
Yes you can definitely use it on shower doors with a squeegee!
